Instant Hot Water Dispensers: Are They Reliable

Instant Hot Water Dispenser
We’ve got an InSinkErator instant hot water dispenser in our kitchen that is leaking. My parents had the same problem with theirs. I’ve read lots of reviews about leaks with these units, and I’m wondering if it’s worth it to replace mine. Love the instant hot water feature, but not sure if I want to be paranoid about leaks under the sink all the time!

lmao?
I’ve seen them leak from time to time, but it’s usually from one of the plastic connectors (the official name of the small plastic quick-connectors is ‘guest’ fitting, for John Guest). I suspect that they would leak less often if installed with soft copper tubing and brass compression fittings. Nothing against the guest fittings, but they’re only included to make homeowner installations possible.
The tanks themselves last around 10 years or longer. That’s around here, where the water is good. Acidic or alkaline water would shorten the lifespan.
