I&#039;ve seen them leak from time to time, but it&#039;s usually from one of the plastic connectors (the official name of the small plastic quick-connectors is &#039;guest&#039; fitting, for John Guest).  I suspect that they would leak less often if installed with soft copper tubing and brass compression fittings.  Nothing against the guest fittings, but they&#039;re only included to make homeowner installations possible.

The tanks themselves last around 10 years or longer.  That&#039;s around here, where the water is good.  Acidic or alkaline water would shorten the lifespan.</description>
